History

Arlyn lived a happy life; her mother was a baker in the town and her father a priest of his faith. When she was about twelve, she started noticing that she always felt as if something was following her. She barely avoided a near-death catastrophe a year later and caught her first sight of her personal 'shadows'. The more and the clearer the glance at them, she found over the years, the stronger the danger. To this day, she doesn't quite know if they're good or evil. She participated in her first tourney when she was seventeen, and soon after, she had an accident in one of the nearby crystal-cave systems and impaled her right arm on a shard. She was then able to detect magical energies. She is affiliated with Iria, who she's looked after since Arlyn turned sixteen. As a result of this, she's formed a rather tight bond with the younger girl, rather like sisters.

Personality

Arlyn is a rather calm, kind and 'motherly' figure, despite being as young as she is. The majority of the children where she lives adore her, though there are a few exceptions as there always are. As they get older, they look up to her still but they want to be more friends than anything. However, Arlyn is very suspicious of strangers, unless there is something contradicting that suspicion. She doesn't 'cuss' often, but she does do it from time to time. Arlyn is afraid of snakes and spiders, but loves reading and playing the piano. She's deathly protective of her pocketknife, and won't stand anybody touching it, holding it, or stealing and keeping it from her. She's not very frugal with money, but she doesn't exactly spend it like it's going out of fashion.


Abilities

Arlyn is a very defensive fighter, preferring to use the sword/rapier setting on her pocketknife. The pocketknife, when in her hands, reacts to mental commands to turn into a specific item; usually, Arlyn uses the sword or gun setting. However, long-range weaponry uses up more energy than short range, the weapon having to conjure up the projectiles. The pocketknife has to rest inbetween fights, or it dies rather climaxlessly when it runs out of energy.
She also senses magical energy--however, this is around objects, not necessarily people. If a person capable of magic carried a magical object around, she could sense it. If they didn't, she wouldn't know the person was able to use magic until they used it, and only after that would she be able to strain her eyes and pick out barely visible wisps in the air and around the person controlling them.
